India has come Here to be Saved

God opened the door for some very unique ministry here in Davao City. After praying, the Lord prompted me to contact a long time acquaintance with a big personality and asked him if our team could help him.

He is an Asian-Indian missionary who has a ministry to the thousands of Indian nationals to come to the Philippines to study medicine. Our team ministered to two of the several Bible studies that my friend holds every night of the week in various unannounced locations to avoid persecution.

During one of our meetings one man from another faith and several Hindus were saved. These precious people are getting saved and discipled here in the Philippines and will go back to India as doctors. Hallelujah!

Up in the Dumps

The Davao City Landfill is in the strangest of places about thirty minutes out of town. Location is everything and this particular place has a “million-dollar” view of remote jungle mountains. I’m not sure who thought such a place would be worthy of a landfill, but it is also home to many poor families who live next to the dump and make their livelihood by rummaging through the smelly garbage and recycling whatever they can find of value. Sadly, many of these people are sick.

I drove the team to minister house to house to these precious people. One young man was unable to move and coughing up blood. After the team prayed for him, he smiled and almost immediately recovered. Hallelujah!

Remote Church in the City

If you know me, you know I would rather preach in a jungle church with no walls than in the most beautiful of cathedrals. While hosting Gordon and the HHTN team, I was grounded from taking long road trips due to my recovery from surgery. To my delight, we made contact with a new pastor in Davao who invited us to his church.

We drove deep into the slums of Davao City where the road became too narrow to navigate. I parked my vehicle where we boarded tricycles and took a long, winding drive until they could go no further. We then hiked through a maze of muddy trails in the darkness. Gordon, who is 70, outperformed me on the trail and jokingly called me “grandpa” as I tried to keep up with my wobbly cane.

When we reached the church, the floor was made of dirt and it was exactly the type of church where I feel most at home. When our team ministered, the Holy Spirit came in indescribable power. The pastor and his church were overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit. Even the little children were weeping the Presence of God. It was a sovereign move of God that I have only seen a handful of times in my life. All Glory to Him alone.

The United Prayer Rising Philippines

The United Prayer Rising is a huge worldwide prayer movement that unites believers to pray for their nation. Usually whenever there is an event of this magnitude, it is held in Manila. This event is unique that they felt the whole nation of believers should come together from everywhere in the Philippines to assemble in Davao City! They invited me to be part of the team to help put it together. Our whole message is to unite the nation in prayer. We will hold a conference September 8– 10 in an indoor stadium, and have a huge outdoor event on September 11, 2017. We are expecting multiple thousands to come. I truly believe this will be a nation changing event and I’m so excited to be a part of it.

We Baptized 109 People at One Time!

I was recently asked to preach on Water Baptism Sunday at Maranatha Family Church. Before the service our church had already scheduled to baptize 69 people at a nearby beach later that day. After I spoke the Holy Spirit convicted many people and they filled the altar. After that service, we set up at the beach for short service. We used part of our portable sound system there, and another 40 people decided to be baptized. I was so honored to baptize about one third of them personally. This is an amazing move of God and I’m excited to be a part of it.

Jesus Disciples Church

Jesus Disciples Church Worship

In February I had the honor of preaching in Jesus Disciples Church pastored by my friend Pastor Randy Maniquez. This young pastor is doing a wonderful work down a remote road just outside of Davao City.  In our service God healed many sick people. One lady received an instant healing in her back. She said after we prayed, it was the first time she was pain-free in six months! Glory to God!

Fire School of Ministry Worship Team

I was recently invited to preach at the Fire School of Ministry Chapel service. FSM is a Bible college birthed out of the Pensacola Revival. They are the only Spirit-Filled Bible college that I know of in Davao City. They also asked me to pray about being one of their Bible-college teachers for the upcoming June term.

Youth Ministry at the Troubled Boys Home

Boy's Home

In December the YUPG (Youth United Prayer Gathering) team did an outreach for a local boys home for troubled youth. My Dad and I joined the outreach as these boys desperately need to see strong father figures. The outreach consisted of a concert, dance presentation, preaching, and even a Christian karate demonstration! It was so much fun to share the love of Jesus with these boys who needed to be in this home either for something bad they had done or for their protection. We were instructed not to share any photos of their faces due to the sensitive nature of their backgrounds and history. We proclaim that these boys will have a great future and great hope in Jesus.

The Refuge is Now Hosting Four Ministries

Worship at the Refuge Youth Center during the YUPG

Worship at the Refuge during the United Prayer Gathering.

The Refuge  is becoming a ministry hub. We have recently opened the doors on Thursdays and Fridays to a youth group needing a temporary home. This means that we now have three churches using the Refuge besides the monthly Youth United Prayer Gathering.

That means four ministries are now using the Refuge for services. The United Prayer Gathering  is an awesome prayer movement to unite the pastors and church leaders of various denominations to pray for Davao City. They also recently invited me to serve on their leadership council. We are so thankful to have the Refuge Youth Center  to facilitate the move of God here in Davao City.

Center of Life Feeding Program

Center of Life Feeding Program at the Refuge
Cute little girls at the Center of Life Feeding ProgramWe are now into our third month of supporting the Center of Life feeding program at the Refuge and the kids are starting to melt my heart. One Saturday when I pulled up the kids were all waiting outside for the doors to open. When I got out of my car, they all cheered and ran up to attack me with their hugs. I cannot put into words the emotions that I experience when I look into these kids eyes before giving them a big hug. I feel joy, love, compassion, and then I feel a rush of empathetic sorrow as I imagine how difficult their lives must be. At least once a week we can put them into a safe, comfortable environment, show them the love of Jesus, and feed them what might be the best meal they eat all week.
